BioSciences at Rice is committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse student body to our BCB and EEB graduate programs. To accomplish this, we take the following actions:
- We increase accessibility to members of historically underrepresented groups by no longer requiring Graduate Records Examination (GRE) scores and allowing petitions for waivers for application fees for US applicants.
- We work to recruit applications from diverse students through efforts such as recruiting at minority serving institutions and research conferences.
- Our recruitment and admission committees are intentionally staffed with diversity in mind.
- Our graduate programs are designed to promote interactions among students and between students and faculty, facilitating collaboration to foster a sense of belonging in our diverse community. For example, first year students have monthly peer mentoring meetings with more advanced graduate students, and all students have active academic support and professional development programs.
